He stood near the stage, looking across the room. Usually his announcements were short and formal, but this time his tone was different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBefore the music begins,\u201d he said, \u201cI\u2019d like to mention one of our students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The room grew quiet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then he looked directly at me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMany of you have probably noticed this dress,\u201d he continued. \u201cSome of you may have even laughed. But very few people know the story behind it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I froze where I stood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The room fell completely silent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People stood up from their seats, applauding loudly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I stood in the middle of the room with tears running down my face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
