At that time, she was just a baby — tiny, fragile, and already carrying a story that many adults would struggle to endure. Two families who had originally agreed to adopt her eventually changed their minds. The reasons were different: fear, uncertainty, worries about the future. Today they are almost inseparable. In the mornings they prepare breakfast together, and in the evenings they read bedtime stories and watch cartoons side by side. Sometimes the little girl says very seriously, “When I grow up, I want to help children the way you helped me.”
