They plotted to get rid of her husband and take everything he owned — never imagining the twist that awaited them.
Once, he had been a man both respected and feared. Confident, powerful, the owner of a thriving business, he was used to being in control of everything. His name carried weight, his decisions were final. But one accident changed it all.
After the tragedy, he was left confined to a wheelchair. The world that once revolved around him came to a sudden halt. Friends disappeared. Business partners turned away. Only she remained — the wife who had once looked at him with admiration… and now saw him with cold indifference.
Over time, even that indifference hardened. To her, he was no longer a partner, but a burden. Something that stood in the way of the life she wanted.
But she couldn’t leave. A divorce would cost her everything. However, if it all looked like a tragic accident… then fate would be on her side.
One day, that thought stopped being just a thought.
She changed. Became attentive again, gentle, almost like before. He noticed it — and despite a quiet unease, he chose to believe her. Maybe this was a second chance.
She suggested a trip out of town — to a waterfall. A chance to be alone, to breathe, to forget. He hesitated, but her soft voice and unexpected warmth convinced him.
Their “family friend” came along too — a man he had once trusted.
The day was strangely quiet. Too quiet.
They moved slowly along a narrow path leading to the edge of a cliff. Below, the water roared, sending up a cold mist. The rocks were wet, slippery, dangerous.
He stopped at the very edge. The wheels of his chair went still. The wind brushed through his hair as he stared into the distance.
She stepped behind him.
The lover moved to the side.
And in that moment, he understood everything.
“Don’t… do this,” he said quietly. “I understand… I’ll do anything you want…”
Silence.
“It’s too late,” she replied coldly.

He turned his head. There was no fear in his eyes. Only exhaustion.
“I have no one left…”
But the decision had already been made.
A sudden push.
The chair rolled forward.
A second.
And he was gone.
No scream.
No struggle.
Just emptiness.
“He fell! It was an accident! Help!” they shouted.
Everything seemed perfect.
Almost.
Less than a minute later… a sound rose from below.
A voice.
“Help…”
They froze.
Slowly, they stepped closer and looked down.
And there — clinging to a root jutting from the rock — he was still alive.
His hands were bleeding. His strength was fading. But he was holding on.
He looked up at them.
That look was chilling.
“Now… I understand,” he whispered.
“We have to go,” the lover said nervously. “He won’t make it.”
But she didn’t move.
“He’s alive…”
The root began to crack.
A quiet sound — but final.
Suddenly, she stepped forward.
“No!”
She dropped to her knees and reached down.
“Take my hand!”
He looked at her for a long moment.
“Why…?”
Tears streamed down her face.
“I’m sorry…”
The root cracked again.
He grabbed her hand.
Weakly — but enough.
The lover’s face hardened.
“Let him go. Or you’ll fall with him.”
She refused.
And then, in a desperate move, the man below grabbed… him.
The lover.
Caught off guard, he lost his balance.
A scream tore through the air.
Now both men were hanging over the abyss.
She tried to hold them, but her strength was slipping away.
“Help me…” the lover pleaded, terror in his eyes.
Now he understood.
She looked at both of them.
Her past.
Her betrayal.
Her choice.
The wind grew stronger.
Her fingers trembled.
And then… they gave way.
A body fell.
Silence returned.
Only two remained.
They lay at the edge, breathing heavily.
After a long moment, he whispered:
“Why…?”
She closed her eyes.
“Because… I had already lost everything.”
He watched her for a long time.
Then he smiled.
But there was no warmth in it.
Only something cold.
“No,” he said softly. “This is just the beginning.”
